Here’s What I’ll Go Over
- Download a Beat Sequencing App
- Fire Up Your Creative Juices
- Make Your Own Beats
So let’s get started with the most obvious question first, what equipment or software do you need to start making beats and bringing your musical imagination to life?
1. Download A Beat Sequencing App
Sequencing beats on the computer is not really any different than any other media production work you may have already experienced using your computer. For instance many people are familiar with windows movie maker, or adobe photoshop, or even recording programs like garageband.
The concept is the same, you use computer software to help you put together different elements into a creative whole. In this case what you need is software that is designed to sequence drum sounds into beats. There is a ton of this kind of software available, some good examples of such software are BTVSolo, Dubturbo, CyberSequencer, Logic Audio, Reason, and Ableton to name a few. In our opinion this is the best beat making software for new beat makers!
These programs range in terms of complexity and price but if you check them out you’ll have a pretty good idea of where to start.
2. Fire Up Your Creative Juices
So once you’ve chosen your beat creator software you’ll be ready to fire up your imagination and start thinking up musical ideas. One of the best ways to do this is to simply listen to music!
By listening to music its like getting your brain warmed up, in the same way that you would warm up and stretch before going for a run or playing sports.
Just sit and listen to some of your favorite hot tracks and beats, really groove to them, listen to them carefully and tell yourself that you can make a track just as good! This should totally motivate you and get you in the perfect head space for beat making!
3. Make Your Own Beats
Many people at this point are still stumped about how to make their own beats. They’ve got their software downloaded and installed, their creative juices are flowing and their mind is teeming with musical ideas for beats and tracks, but then they just don’t know how to go about getting their ideas out.
This usually stems from a very basic lack of experience with music, rhythm, melodies, and harmony. But if that sounds confusing don’t worry! Making beats is not hard you just need learn a few basics and eventually you will be making your own beats like the pros!
Remember the key is to just keep with it and always make sure you are having fun with music production and beat sequencing. If you stick with it you can become a serious beat creator and you’ll be MAD surprised at how good your tracks sound.
Best of luck to you!
